High Earning Degrees –

Yahoo! Education has an article on five degrees that have high earnings potential.  The article provides the average starting salary and average mid-career salary for each career.  Three of the five are Bachelor degrees and two are Associate degrees.  A Bachelor’s degree in Business was the top degree in the article.

The U.S. Department of Treasury site has updated their Financial Education and Financial Access Resource Center.  The Resource Center has valuable links and information on financial programs and financial literacy initiatives.  The Financial Literacy and Education Commission is part of theDepartment of Treasury Resource Center and it contains a wealth of information on financial education.  A valuable source is the MyMoney.gov hotline (1-888-MyMoney) which is toll free and provides the public with information on federal financial education materials.

MBA Hiring Trend –

The job market for MBAs has improved and hiring is expected to increase for the remainder of the year.  According to a report published by the QS World MBA Tour, the finance and consulting sectors are both showing double digit increases in hiring.  MBA hiring in the finance sector increased 22% last year and may show an 11% increase this cycle.  Consulting is showing an even greater improvement with a 19% increase last year and possibly a 37% increase this year.

Harvard Medical School Tops US News Rankings –

Harvard Medical School finished number one for research programs in the US News rankings for 2011.  The University of Pennsylvania finished second, Johns Hopkins was ranked third, and Washington University in St. Louis came in fourth.  Stanford moved from 11th place to 5th on the list and had an acceptance rate of only 3.3%.  Acceptance rates at top research programs tend to be lower than at other graduate programs.

Top European Business Schools –

European business schools are rising in popularity over the last few years.  Applications have soared since 2006 and class statistics have also increased.  According to Bloomberg Businessweek, average GMAT scores at Insead are now 704.  The top three European business schools are Insead, London Business School, and Oxford.

US News 2011 Law School Rankings –

The US News 2011 law schools rankings were released and little has changed in the top 14.  The top five schools are still Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, and the University of Chicago.  The only new addition to the top 14 is the University of Texas at Austin which tied for the 14th rank.  One of the biggest shifts in ranking came for the University of Maryland which improved from 48th to 42nd place.

Law Firms Rank Law Schools –

The US News has added another ranking for law schools.  Hiring partners at top law firms were asked to rank law schools based on academic quality.  Schools were ranked on a five point scale from outstanding (5) to marginal (1).  Harvard was ranked number one with Yale and Stanford finishing tied for second.

Business Majors Tuition –

Differential tuition is taking hold at some universities across America.  Schools are using differential tuition to close funding gaps from state cutbacks.  Business majors are getting charged higher tuition rates than other majors at several schools.  The highly ranked University of Virginia announced a tuition increase for business majors effective next fall.
