B & N e-book Reader -
21. October 2009 by Jim Sutliff.
The Nook is now available from Barnes & Noble and it is listed at $249 dollars. A good price point with many features makes it strong competition for the Kindle. Even in a down economy the sales should be strong out of the gate. This is in no small part due to the timely release right before the holiday shopping season. When e-readers come down in price to around $50 dollars they will be more widely accepted. Spending a few hundred dollars on an e-reader for a school age children is not realistic for most family budgets. There is also a post by Scott Anthony on the Harvard Business blog that discusses the competition between Kindle and Nook that is worth reading.

Compaq Ultra-Cheap Laptops -
16. October 2009 by Jim Sutliff.
HP is pumping some life back into the Compaq brand and offering “ultra-cheap” laptops. The price is in the neighborhood of $399 and the machines have decent specs. This appears to be a move directed at the rising netbook market which is gaining more attention from consumers. It also doesn’t hurt that the holiday season is around the cornor and an attractive price in a down economy will likely raise sales.
