Georgetown Center On Education Study -

A recent study from the Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce compared college majors with employment rates and salaries.  The study indicates that a students major is a strong factor in determining employment and lifetime career earnings.  Majors that are in high demand are engineering, healthcare, education, and the sciences.  Earnings for quantitative majors such as engineering were significantly higher than earnings in the education field.  Architecture is one major that has been hurt by the economic downturn.  Architecture majors have a 13.9% unemployment rate.

A recent Yahoo! Education article discusses seven health care careers.  For each career the article provides the average salary, the degree or certificate requirements, and the reason that the field is in high demand.  Medical assistant and dental assistant are the top two health care careers listed in the article.

US News Short List -

The US News Short List provides rankings and data that is separate from the US News overall rankings.  The Short List for colleges provides lists of the most expensive and least expensive public and private colleges.  Also, there are articles on the academics and faculty at different schools.  The Short List also provides data on schools that have the most and fewest cars on campus.

Yahoo! Education has an article on medical careers that do not require medical school.  The article lists five careers and provides a job description, job outlook, and average salary.  Health information manager has the highest average salary at over $93,000 per year.

Career Builder offers a salary center that provides a job search engine, calculators, and career advice.  The CB Salary Center has three free calculators that can assist in a career search.  The first calculator displays jobs after a salary range and location are entered.  The second calculator provides positions after entering a job title and location.  A cost of living comparison is the third calculator provided by the CB Salary Center. It calculates the income needed in different cities for the same standard of living.

US News National University Rankings -

Harvard and Princeton University tied for first place in the US News rankings for National Universities.  National Universities offer a wide range of degrees and invest heavily in research.  Yale University finished third and there were five universities tied for fifth place.  The five universities tied for fifth are the California Institute for Technology, MIT, Stanford University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Pennsylvania.  Duke completed the top ten ranked National Universities.
