Jumpstart Awards Dinner -

The Jumpstart Annual Awards Dinner will be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington DC on April 18th 2012.   The reception is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm with Dinner starting at 7:30 pm.  The Jumpstart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy is based in Washington DC.

JumpStart National Educator Conference 2011 -

The JumpStart National Educator Conference is set for November 4th-6th in Washington DC.  JumpStart has a full line-up of events and speakers for the weekend.  The opening reception will take place in the Kennedy Caucus Room in the Russell Senate Office Building.  There will be workshops, networking, as well as a dinner event on saturday evening.   Also, CNBC reporter Hampton Pearson is expected to be a speaker at the event.

Financial Literacy National Strategy -

The Financial Literacy and Education Commission has created a national strategy to promote financial literacy.  The 16 page document was developed with input from private and public sector participants.  The document sets goals and strategy for public policy, education, and implementation.

Jumpstart Financial Literacy -

The Jumpstart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy provides news, resources, and activities.  Jumpstart is one of the top supporters of personal financial literacy and is a resource for parents and educators.  The Jumpstart 2011 National Educator Conference is being held November 4th-6th in Washington DC.  Registration for the event is now open.

MyMoney.Gov Resources -

MyMoney.gov is a site created by 22 Federal entities that provides financial literacy information and materials.  A few of the participating entities are the Federal Trade Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Department of the Treasury, and the Office of the Comptroller of Currency.  MyMoney.gov also provides resources for teachers, parents, researchers, and financial education providers.

College Payback Rankings -

Smart Money has an article on the top 50 schools ranked by payback period.  The schools are ranked according to their costs of attendence and the salaries of their graduates.  The top five schools in the payback rankings are the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Texas at Austin, University of Florida, University of Georgia, and the University of Illinois.  There is also an interactive table associated with the article.

PBS Kids -

PBS Kids has an area to teach children about money.  The site provides information on making money, spending money, and managing money.  PBS Kids also offers a game called Mad Money.  Mad Money teaches children the value of a dollar by  giving them a weekly allowance and a shopping list.

Financial Market Lessons For Kids -

Smart Money has an article on discussing the financial markets with your kids.  The recent market volatility can be a good teaching tool for financial literacy and the workings of financial markets.  The article provides several sources for parents to find teaching tools and games for financial literacy.

Financial Literacy Lessons For Kids -

Time has an article that discusses the need for financial literacy for children.  The article outlines the financial knowledge that children should have at different ages.  For example, children should know the value of coins at age 5 and how interest works by age 18.  Also, the article provides information for ages 9, 13, and 23.

Jumpstart is holding their 2011 National Educator Conference in Washington DC November 4th-6th.  The third annual conference is for teachers of personal finance at any grade level.  The National Educator Conference offers workshops for advocacy, content, and personal development.

OCC Financial Literacy Resources Directory -

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has an extensive financial literacy resources directory.  The financial literacy resources directory has information and links for asset building progams, basic financial literacy, consumer protection, and housing.  The directory provides descriptions for each program as well as contact information.  The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is an independent bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

MyMoney.Gov Tools -

MyMoney.Gov is a site created by 22 Federal entities and is geared towards improving financial literacy.  The site has tools for financial planning such as calculators, budgeting worksheets, and finance checklists.  The calculators are provided by many different agencies which include the Department of the Treasury, FDIC, Department of Education, and the Office of Personnel Management.

National Financial Capability Challenge -

The National Financial Capability Challenge is a joint project of the U.S. Department of Treasury and the U.S. Department of Education.  The program is focused on improving the financial literacy and knowledge of students aged 13-19.  There is also an educator toolkit available for download.

Sesame Street Financial Literacy -

Sesame Street has incorporated financial literacy teachings into their programs.  In addition, the Sesame Street site has pages and guides for educators as well as parents.  Elmo and the Cookie Monster are great instructors and they help teach financial literacy in the guides and videos on the site.

Capitol Hill Financial Literacy Day -

April is National Financial Literacy month and there are events scheduled throughout the month.  One event was the Financial Literacy Day on Capitol Hill.  The event was presented by the JumpStart Coalition, JA Worldwide, and the Council For Economic Education.  The event was open to the public and guests included Republican and Democratic Senators and Congressmen.
