MBA Dean Of The Year -

CNN Fortune has an article on the Poets and Quants MBA Dean of the Year.  Poets and Quants awarded their first Dean of the Year award to Robert Bruner.  Bruner is the Dean of the Darden School of Business.  Darden is the School of Business at the University of Virginia.  Bruner has helped to recruit one out of every four of Darden faculty members.  In addition, applications have risen to eight applicants for every seat.

Top MBA Programs -

A recent CNN article and slideshow discusses the top MBA programs.  The article uses the business school rankings provided by Poets and Quants.  The article provides median base salaries, acceptance rates, average GMAT scores, and cost of attendence.  Harvard was ranked number one and was followed by Stanford and the University of Chicago.  The three schools also finished at the top of the 2010 rankings.

New GMAT -

The GMAT has a new integrated reasoning section that will first appear on the June GMAT.  The integrated reasoning section will join the verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing sections of the exam.  Registration for the new GMAT will begin this month.

Vault has business school ratings that can assist prospective MBA applicants.  The ratings cover several areas which include selectivity, academics, quality of life, and career services.  The business school ratings tool allows prospective applicants to match their priorites to the strengths of each MBA program.

Business School Selectivity -

Bloomberg Businessweek has an article and slideshow on business school selectivity.  Applications are down at 21 of the top 30 MBA programs.  Stanford had the biggest decline of any top ten program with an 8% drop in applications.  The drop in applications  increased the percentage of applicants that were admitted to two-thirds of the top 30 programs.

Forbes MBA Rankings -

The Forbes rankings of the best business schools has data for starting salaries, payback periods, pre-MBA salaries, and median GMAT scores.  The MBA programs are ranked by their total 5 year gain in compensation after costs of attendence and lost earnings.  Harvard was ranked first with Stanford coming in second and the University of Chicago finishing third.

London Business School Expanding -

London Business School is attempting to acquire a new building near their current campus.  Rising demand for their highly ranked MBA and MS Finance programs have led to their expansion plans.  London Business School has been ranked number 1 by the Financial Times.  Currently, London Business School has 404 students entering their full-time MBA program and 120 for their Master of Finance program.

MBA Programs Attract Recent Grads -

A recent Wall Street Journal article discussed the rising number of recent college grads applying to MBA programs.  Generally, top ranked MBA programs require a few years of work experience from applicants.  However, there are schools that will accept students in their final year of undergraduate study and defer admission for two years.  Also, the number of candidates taking the Graduate Management Admission Test that were under age 24 increased 24% per year from 2004 to 2009.

Vault has a ranking for top business schools that is based on ratings by students, alumni, and Vault’s editors.  There is an annual survey that covers academics, selectivity, social life, career services, diversity, and quality of life.  Vault provides a description of each MBA program as well as comprehensive statistics for salary, demographics, and career fields.

US News: Top Business Schools 2012 -

The Stanford University Graduate School of Business was ranked number one in the US News 2012 MBA rankings.  Harvard University fell to second place and MIT and Wharton were tied for third.  Northwestern and the University of Chicago tied for fifth place.  US News also provides specialty rankings for entrepreneurship, accounting, finance, and marketing.  In addition, the US News Business School Compass has information on starting salaries, acceptance rates, and average GMAT scores.

Financial Times Global MBA Rankings 2011 -

The Financial Times Global MBA rankings for 2011 covers business school programs from around the world.  The rankings provide data on careers, placement rates, and salaries.  The Financial Times MBA rankings have London Business School and Wharton tied for number one.  The rest of the top five are Harvard Business School, Insead, and Stanford.  Stanford has the highest weighted salary of all MBA programs at slightly over $180,000.

Fins is a career site and is part of the Wall Street Journal network.  Fins provides newsletters for Finance, Sales and Marketing, and Technology, careers.  In addition, the site has job postings for each field and provides insight to each type of career and company.

University Of North Carolina MBA Program -

The University of North Carolina is the first top 20 MBA program to offer an online MBA program.  The Kenan-Flagler Business School will have an entering class of 19 students for their online program.  The Anderson School of Management at UCLA offers some online courses but they do not have a complete program.
